Pro-lifers who dropped extremely graphic anti-abortion pamphlets in residential communities in Okotoks last week crossed the line.
There has been a lot of outrage from parents in Drake Landing after representatives from the Canadian Centre for Bio-ethical Reform (CCBR) distributed pamphlets last week with a picture of a dead fetus and contained messages against gender-specific abortion.
A line was crossed because these pamphlets were simply dropped on doorsteps where anyone could find them including young children.
We live in a country where freedom of speech is imperative and people should feel safe to share their beliefs. However, there should also be some common sense.
People should respect a parent’s right to choose when and how they discuss controversial issues with their children whether its abortion, religion or politics.
In some cases the residents agreed with the message, but were angered by the method.
Several parents were furious their children found these pamphlets and had to consul their children who saw the pictures.
By all means, speak out about your cause, lobby for your movement, but share your views when and where it is appropriate. Dropping graphic pictures where children may find them is irresponsible and certainly does not help garner support to your cause.
If your goal is to protect children knock on doors and talk to adults about your beliefs do not just toss them on the doorstep.
What this has done has helped CCBR get attention likely their goal.
