Sheep Creek Arts prepares for fall season

The Sheep Creek Arts Council is preparing for the fall 2013 series of classes. Registration for classes is possible in three ways: in person, on Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Registration forms and details of most of the courses are included in the Foothills Continuing Education booklet and available at most libraries.

The various clubs comprising the council meet on certain days and times and are ongoing throughout the year. The Decorative Painters meet on Monday afternoons from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning on Sept. 30 or Thursday evenings 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. commencing Oct. 3. The Scrapbook Club meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of the month beginning on Sept. 24 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Diamond Valley Quilt Club convenes on the first and third Wednesday 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. starting Sept. 25. Knitting Club starts on Tuesday Sept. 24 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and the Camera Club, now starting its 51st year, meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month beginning Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Classes such as belly dance with Karla Powell (10 classes for $50) will be on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with the first meeting on Sept. 24. Vivian Wiebe is again offering Painting Your Way on Monday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and eight classes are $65.

A new class this fall is for those interested in beginning to quilt and it is being taught by Lorraine Venechuk. A start date has not been set yet.

Shay Ford would like to hear from those interested in a traditional rug hooking or punch needle circle. Email [email protected] and mark the subject rug hook.

The arts council also offers workshops on Saturdays fro, 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Flowers in Watercolour workshop will be available on Oct. 19 at a cost of $70 and will be taught by Jane Romanishko. Rudi Gabriel will be offering a drawing and sketching workshop on Nov. 2 at a cost of $35. Examples of his work can be seen at the Sheep River Library at the moment.

Evelyn Richmond is again offering the opportunity to paint a fabric angel. Preparation will begin on Friday Nov. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with completion on Saturday Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $35 plus wood and fabric.

Cheryl Renwick will teach the construction of simple books and pamphlets on Saturday Nov. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $35.

A course in pet first aid, a pilot project under the Red Cross guidance, will be five to six hours and will include CPR as well as first aid. If interested, please email [email protected] and mark the subject line pets first aid.
