Rubbed the wrong way

Have you ever had a situation where a room full of people were pointing at you and laughing hysterically and you had no idea why? When I was about 15 years old I had outgrown most of my hockey equipment and I had to get some new gear.

Have you ever had a situation where a room full of people were pointing at you and laughing hysterically and you had no idea why? When I was about 15 years old I had outgrown most of my hockey equipment and I had to get some new gear. We had a game in Blackie that weekend and I was really excited to try out the new stuff. I didn’t wear a shirt under my hockey equipment and by the second intermission the fabric on my new shoulder pads was rubbing my nipples quite painfully. For a quick fix I discreetly took some pieces of black hockey stick tape and taped an X over each nipple for protection. It worked like a charm and by the end of the game there was no more pain and I had completely forgotten about the problem. Back in the dressing room after the game I removed all the equipment from my upper body and was resting there on the bench for a moment. All of a sudden one of my teammates eyes go wide, he points at me and starts laughing at the top of his lungs. In about two seconds everyone in the room was pointing and howling like hyenas, parents and coaches included. It was the strangest feeling. I can still remember the extreme anxiety as my brain raced to figure out why everyone was laughing at me. When I looked down and realized that I still had the black tape X’s over my sore nipples I had a good laugh too.
