On Sept. 28 the Okotoks Public Library will welcome Edmonton writer Caterina Edwards when she will lead a writing workshop entitled “Telling Family Stories.”

The workshop is being sponsored by the Writers’ Guide of Alberta as part of special events being held across the province during this year’s Alberta Culture Days September 27 – 29.

Edwards will share her memoir-writing expertise with a limited group of local writers. She will ascribe ways to make the stories come alive, explore the complexities of truth and purpose, and communicate methods to ultimately satisfy one’s readers. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and there is $10 charge to cover the cost of a catered lunch. Pre-registration is needed in person at the library.

According to Edwards’ biography “her latest book ‘Finding Rosa: A Mother With Alzheimer's/A Daughter's Search for the Past’ won the 2008 Writers Guild of Alberta Award for Nonfiction and the 2010 Bressani Prize for History, as well as being shortlisted for the City of Edmonton Book Prize. Before that she published a novel, a book of novellas, a play, and a collection of stories, Island of the Nightingales, which won the 2001 Writers Guild of Alberta Award for Short Fiction. Her radio drama, ‘The Great Antonio,’ was broadcast on the CBC in 2006 and was the official Canadian entry into an international radio play competition. Edwards also co-edited two collections of life writing by women and has published many creative nonfiction pieces in magazines and anthologies.”
