Pool party this weekend

When is the last time you went to an outdoor pool party? For me it may have been close to 50 years ago. Yes the Dr. Lander Memorial Pool will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Friday, August 8th.

When is the last time you went to an outdoor pool party? For me it may have been close to 50 years ago. Yes the Dr. Lander Memorial Pool will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Friday, August 8th. The party kicks off at noon with a couple speeches and best of all, cake! Outdoor pools are not as plentiful as they were back then but there is something nice about swimming outdoors with the sun’s heat shinning on you.

Regardless of how the final series game went with the Okotoks Dawgs playing the Lethbridge Bulls I must say I am a proud supporter of the Dawgs. When these young men showed up Okotoks in June most of them had never seen Okotoks let alone the other players on the team. They started slow and looked like a team destined for last place. As they got to know each other they began to gel and started to put a few wins together.

Now in the playoffs they are playing the number one team in the league and holding their own. After going down 2-0 in the first two games in Lethbridge they dug deep and pulled out two wins at home! Final game in the best of five series was played Tuesday night in Lethbridge so at presstime I did not know the outcome. Win or lose the boys of summer have improved dramatically this summer and we can certainly say we got our monies worth with this team.

The 7th Annual Foothills Ladies Compassion Cup will be held on Monday, August 11th at the Turner Valley Course. “Fifty Shades of Green” is the theme this year! Proceeds will be split between The Hospice, Pound Rescue and the FTRA (kids special needs). Check it out ladies, the weather will be great and just think, a round of golf with NO men on the course!

It will not be long until the annual Show and Shine in downtown Okotoks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17. A cool addition to the cars and bikes is the Quilt Stroll always held at the same time and displayed on the main street down by the Station. Lots and lots of quilts on display and made by our local quilters. If you want to be a part of it call 403-938-6269. I just don’t have time to get my quilt finished but maybe next year.
