Paul's Place: Tour has left the building

Black Diamond just can’t seem to get a break. They had a great day of events planned last Saturday for the world class bike tour in their town. Even though it was overcast and wet most of the day it was still a wonderful event, but with a bright sunny day it could have been so much more.

On Sunday the tour started in Okotoks for their last leg. It was a great experience and enjoyed by lots of bike enthusiasts. I watched the bikes go by the Wheel office and it was just a big blur as the cyclists made their way towards Bragg Creek. It reminded me of watching bobsled races at Canada Olympic Park during the Olympics in 1988. You could hear them coming and then swoosh they were by and you watched them disappear around the next corner.

Nice to hear Black Diamond, Bragg Creek and Okotoks on the national newscasts.

Exciting news. The Wind Walk development south of Okotoks may have found a way to bring water out of the Highwood to look after their needs and other developments in the MD. As much as it will allow some rural clusters to be developed along the fringes of Okotoks the most efficient system for the entire area would be a regional water system supported by all parties working together. In a dream world I am still hoping it is not too late for that to happen.

You may notice the Town of High River is running some of their council news in the Wheel each week. As there are High River residents displaced all over our readership area it is a way for the Town to find more of their audience.

The outdoor concert held last weekend at the Okotoks Agriculture grounds was well attended considering the lousy weather on Saturday.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the first class country music. Usually this time of year we are praying for rain but we have been blessed (I guess) with an abundance of moisture.

I imagine the Rider fans have been consuming a few extra pils this past weekend trying to get the taste of defeat out of their systems. With the Riders being beat on Sunday by Winnipeg (of all teams) and the Stamps winning another one they are now tied at the top of the Western CFL standings. I also enjoyed seeing BC go down to Hamilton as it gives the Stamps a little more breathing room. Calgary has the longest winning streak in the entire CFL at this point. Go Stamps....

I would like to welcome Cobs Bread to our community and thank them for their generous donation every day of day old product to several of our Foothills charities.

Just a reminder that school zones are now in effect and in Okotoks the hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Many don’t seem to realize the early start time. The fines are expensive so please take note.
