Paul's Place: School is back in session

Well the Labour Day long weekend is behind us and the kids are back to school. It has been an odd summer with lots of rain early on and of course now that September has rolled around we are going to have near record temperatures and lots of sunshine.

Well the Labour Day long weekend is behind us and the kids are back to school. It has been an odd summer with lots of rain early on and of course now that September has rolled around we are going to have near record temperatures and lots of sunshine.

Don’t worry it won’t be long and we will be planning our Christmas break.

With the start of school comes those pesky school zones and lots of extra excited kids running around. Please take the time when driving to be extra cautious as it all seems new for the first couple weeks.

I read this somewhere the other day and it has stuck with me:

“All plans for the future are useless if you have no capacity to fully live in the present.”

I must congratulate the Okotoks Pro Rodeo committee for an outstanding rodeo on the weekend. I love the kid’s Mutton Bustin and Wild Pony races. The dance featured Tanya Ryan and what a great voice she has. All in all a great success I am sure. Rodeo is an important part of our heritage and an event I always look forward to.

Well the Stampeders came really close to blowing their CFL game against Edmonton on Monday afternoon. They were up 37-7 in the final quarter and ended up pulling out a 37-34 finish. Made it exciting that’s for sure. Let’s hope they hold it together a bit better on Friday in Edmonton. After all, Edmonton is in last place so let’s clobber them.

Well, I see it is now official we will have a race for the mayor’s chair in Okotoks.

A couple weeks ago Larry Albrecht announced he will run and in this issue our present Mayor Bill Robertson said he will seek one more term as mayor.

The rumour mill tells me there may be one more name added to the list for mayor. Time will tell.

We do need to thank those who put their names forward as it is a huge commitment and the process works best when we have an election for the positions.
