Paul's place: It' s the Year of the Horse

According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, Chinese New Year fell on Friday, January 31st. This is the ‘Year of the Horse’. Sounds strong and determined doesn’t it? If it keeps snowing on and off until May we will need a horse to get around.

Loved the Clydesdale horse in the Budweiser commercial during the Super Bowl. The horse and the puppy seemed to understand each other. Anyway, all the best to all my Chinese friends. I hope this is a good year for all of you.

The Okotoks Dawgs banquet was a hit last weekend as well with a packed house. I loved Homer Bush’s address as he talked about the determination it takes to succeed in sports and in life. It was also announced that soon the Town of Okotoks will rename the roadway that runs in front of the Dawgs Stadium to Don Seaman Blvd. That is a fantastic gesture to the man that financially made sure that the Dawgs Stadium would be built. Congratulations Don.

I must congratulate our neighbours to the south, The High River Times newspaper, in moving back into their flooded out offices last week.

It seemed to take forever but the entire building had to be stripped to the bare foundation and then rebuilt. I was in it the other day and must admit it looks fantastic. Pretty much a new facility but an awful ordeal to get to this chapter. We wish you success as you move forward capturing the news of the High River area.

Did you watch the Super Bowl on Sunday? My lord all the hype was about the Denver Broncos and Manning. Funny in sports how that sometimes works against you and in this case it did.

Seattle played an almost perfect game in every aspect, defence, offence, special teams, They were unbeatable that day and came close to skunking their opponents. After Seattle ran the opening kick off in the second half back for a touchdown you knew the end was nigh. That is when I started flipping back and forth between the game and the Scotties curling.
