Can you believe in less than eight weeks we will be at the polls electing new town councils, school boards and MD councils.
The term of office for the newly elected councils will be four years this time. I assume after the Labor Day long weekend we will start to hear more about who is going to run. We will keep you updated and feature each candidate as well as cover the issues and the forums.
There is little doubt the number one issue in Okotoks will be the town’s water supply.
Seems I am the only one who wakes up a couple times at night when the train whistle blows so I will keep asking for one more automated crossing with arms on Centre Avenue so we can pass a bylaw to have the trains pass through without the darn whistle like they do in Cochrane and other places. The cost of moving the tracks out of town is way too costly plus someday we will have an LRT system into the city and need the track.

The Province has announced compensation for residents in Southern Alberta who live in the floodway. It all seems fair except the maps they are using were drawn up in 1992 and several waterways have flooded a lot since then and some are even on a different course than back then. I do believe a fair an updated map of the floodways should be produced as there are other homes in High River especially that should qualify and at this point do not.

A former sergeant in the Marine Corps took a new job as a high school teacher. Just before the school year started, he injured his back. He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body.
Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn’t noticeable.
On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom.
Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk. When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest. Dead silence. The rest of the year went pretty smoothly.
