New census numbers for Okotoks have just been released and show the town with a population of 26,319.

There are always a few residents who cannot be reached for numbers – only 50 households didn’t respond – so I think it would be safe to say that 26,500 people call Okotoks home. This is an increase of about six per cent since the last census in 2012 that had the number at 24,962.

I believe we are extremely close to our estimated number of residents we can supply water to with the present water licences available. It is a no brainer our new council has one huge priority and that is to get more water into this town ASAP! The days of studying the situation need to end and action needs to happen.

The Canada Summer Games has come to a close and for the first time ever Alberta won more than 100 medals. We won 34 gold, 42 silver and 42 bronze all adding up to 118 medals. Alberta ended up in fourth place overall just four medals behind B.C., with Ontario first and Quebec second.

Congratulations to all our Alberta athletes for this impressive showing.

I have wasps burrowing in my grass at home.

I went out to deal with it the other night by pouring boiling water down the hole. I got in unscathed, but my dog received several bites. Sad thing is all I did was upset them and now neither the dog or myself will go to that spot on the lawn.

It is the season as the hardware store I went to for further supplies was almost sold out of wasp spays, bombs, etc.

It is also the season for weird vegetables growing in your garden! I went over to Okotoks residents Pat and Vance Billey’s the other day and took a picture of this weird tomato that is about six inches square.

As you harvest your garden this fall, if you find some interesting specimen, take a photo then like us on facebook and submit your photo. We will run some of them in my column. Could be lots of fun.....
