Explore past, present, and an imagined future at the Okotoks Public Library this summer.
Local readers are invited to put pen to paper and design a library of the future as a tie-in to the Town of Okotoks’ annual parade on June 15.
Watch for the library’s float in the parade and see pictures depicting how the library has grown from its earliest days in 1977 when it was housed in a corner unit of the Town Square Mall on Elizabeth Street through to the current location alongside the Sheep River. What will the future Okotoks Public Library look like? That is a question all community members are invited to imagine in the “Design Your Future Library” contest.
“Our Okotoks library is so well loved and well used by our community that we wanted to hear how they plan on interacting with the library in the future,” commented board member Pam McLean. “We thought it would be fun to hold a contest and allow people to let their imaginations run wild as they design the library they’d like to visit in the future.”
Starting on parade day through to June 29 model submissions no larger than letter-size paper will be accepted and displayed at the library. Library staff and board members will then choose their top five, and the public will then be called upon to vote for their favourite starting July 2 through July 6. Designs with the most votes will be awarded first, second and third prizes on July 8.
Submissions can be dropped off at the circulation desk or emailed to [email protected]. Entries must include name and contact information. While in the library to vote for the best future design, community members are reminded to check out the photos of what the Okotoks Public Library looked like in years gone by.
