Off to the polls we go again

It wasn’t long ago I talked in my column about how Canada fared with other G8 nations when it came to economic recovery.

It wasn’t long ago I talked in my column about how Canada fared with other G8 nations when it came to economic recovery. It was reported in the article I quoted Canada was doing well with employment improvement, interest rates, mortgages, longterm debt etc. Well we had just finished patting ourselves on the back and now we are watching our leaders run each other into the ground. Is this what makes our system work?

Oh, I hope not. I believe if the government had let the public vote in a one day phone blitz knowing another election would cost $300 million, the Canadian citizens would have voted to not go to the polls and ask our parties to go back to the table and find a compromise to keep the system running.

I strongly believe we should adopt a system where no matter what happens we go to the polls on the same date every four years. This system would get rid of so much of the nonsense and bring the intelligent politicians to the forefront. We need politicians at all levels who are willing to listen and compromise if we want what is best for Joe citizen.

This election is already over before it started. Another PC minority and more of the same from the opposition. Too bad, that 300 mil would have looked good on the national debt.

An exciting event is about to be launched in Okotoks. Starting Saturday, April 2 we will feature monthly festivals of Arts and Culture in our Olde Towne Okotoks. First Saturdays monthly festivals will include events all day and most are free.

The idea is to get lots of foot traffic enjoying some different tastes and experiences. What a great idea and the agenda for this Saturday is in this issue on page 25. Let’s get out and support this great new event.
