News from the VNC

It is my understanding that the Turner Valley swimming pool opening will be delayed this year. Hope the spray park opening goes ahead as planned so the kids can begin a wet and wonderful summer.

Our annual 80 and over birthday party was a gala affair on Sunday. There were 24 honorees on our list, three of whom are having their one hundredth birthday this year.

Dode Anderson had the honor of cutting the beautiful birthday cake and tea was served from our silver service, in beautiful china tea cups.

John Barlow was on hand to distribute the certificates. Not often do we have a Member of Parliament in our midst and, as always, he was his usual charming, unpretentious self.

The Millarville Horticultural club plant sale will be held in the Millarville race track Quonset on June 4 at 7 p.m. sharp. Don’t be late or you will have missed it. Then on June 6 our VNC will be holding their plant sale in conjunction with Discovery Days. The sale will be held in the courtyard at VNC from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 6. Anyone wishing to drop off plant donations may do so anytime Friday, June 5. If anyone needs pots or help with digging, call Bea at 403-933-7131.

Be sure to take in the Rhubarb Festival on June 6 at 133 Sunset Blvd. The quilt show goes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the rhubarb tea is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Rhubarb pie or warm rhubarb crisp with whipped cream or ice cream, tea, coffee or rhubarb punch, all for five dollars. It’s the best deal in town and all homemade.

Thanks for the white peony for our courtyard, donated in memory of Jean McLeod. You won’t believe the awesome ramp that Ross has built for the shed, hinges and all, and Randy has done a wonderful job on the fence, it really looks nice.

The Saskatoons are in bloom. Sure hope we have a good crop this year.
