News from the Valley Neighbours Club

We didn’t have a good turnout for our games night on Tuesday, so it was decided to limit them to once a month from now on. So, the next games night at VNC will be March 23 at 7:00.

The Sheep River Library will feature the story of Max and Julie Winkler on March 10 at 7:00 p.m. Come and hear how this adventurous couple packed up their 10-week-old baby and headed into the back country of Jasper park where Max was the warden. Hear their tale of raising a family in an isolated cabin.

Games night at Millarville racetrack will be changed from March 14 to March 7 to facilitate a St. Patrick’s celebration. Congratulations to MRAS on the presentation of the Alberta Century Award for their 108 year commitment to the agricultural community.

If you are a stargazer, check out Betelgeuse. You will find it in the upper left corner of the large rectangle forming Orion (the hunter). It is the 10th brightest star in the night sky and it will explode someday. But don’t worry, it is 430 light years away from Earth. However, we on Earth will be treated to an amazingly beautiful sight when Betelgeuse becomes a supernova as it runs out of fuel and collapses under its own weight in a spectacular explosion.

Betelgeuse will brighten enormously for a few weeks or months, perhaps as bright as a full moon and will be visible in broad daylight.

Don’t forget our general meeting will be tomorrow, March 5 at 1:00.
