News from the Valley Neighbours Club

Such a lovely Canada Day. I took in the festivities in Black Diamond and there was a good crowd to enjoy the music and, of course, the native dancers. Our activities have come to a near screeching halt for the summer.

Such a lovely Canada Day. I took in the festivities in Black Diamond and there was a good crowd to enjoy the music and, of course, the native dancers.

Our activities have come to a near screeching halt for the summer. No one showed up for euchre on June 30, but we will keep opening up and see how it goes. Basically, bridge is scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday at 1 p.m., is the only activity not taking a summer hiatus.

The June 30 senior’s supper at the Legion was delicious, although poorly attended. There will be Christmas in July on July 28, but no supper in August.

Congratulations to John Barlow on his success in the recent by-election. In my never to be humble opinion, he is the best of the best and I sincerely hope they will welcome him in Ottawa for the outstanding individual that he is.

July 24, 25 and 26 are moonless nights and perfect for stargazing at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory on Highway 22. The fun starts at 10 p.m. and cost is by donation. Go and enjoy the night sky.

Did anyone see the triple moon conjunction on Saturday night? My patience was rewarded at 11:45 p.m., the clouds broke and there hung the waxing moon between Spica and Mars and all within the field of my binoculars. I can’t imagine how awesome it would have been with a telescope.
