Mar poised to be premier

We have hundreds of Progressive Conservative Party executive members across Alberta and probably the weakest voting system ever invented when it comes to choosing a new leader.

We have hundreds of Progressive Conservative Party executive members across Alberta and probably the weakest voting system ever invented when it comes to choosing a new leader.

Let’s hope they can put their heads together and fix it before the next time.

Gary Mar gets more votes than the second and third place contenders combined but needs to campaign for two more weeks to be declared the winner. Move on, the PC members who care have voted. Live with it! To put the party through another vote is a waste of time and money. Plus, I can’t stand too many more emails and phone calls telling me what to do. They say it’s not over until the fat lady sings, but trust me she is running out of breath!

Then just to add a little irony to the situation two of the three candidates who got dropped put their support behind Mar. It’s over folks! Funny thing is one of the candidates to support Mar stated he ran because the other five were not capable. The other one ran a campaign that just doesn’t look too much like Mar’s. We all tend to gravitate to the winner when the chips are down. It would be interesting for sure to hear the deals being made behind closed doors.

Welcome Premier Mar. Now let’s get to work.

Here is an event you do not want to miss. Last year it was about the best turkey dinner ever. The Dunbow Recreation Association will be hosting their second annual Thanksgiving turkey dinner on Oct. 1 at the Davisburg Hall. The event will run from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meal is second to none and you just cannot say enough about the pies and other treats. Not only will you get a meal fit for a king there are plenty of other activities for all ages. This is a fundraiser to help build recreation facilities in the MD. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for kids over six. You can get tickets in advance at the Heritage Heights School or at the Heritage Lake Clubhouse.

Another repeat cool event underway is the Scarecrow Festival out at Kayben Farms and around the community. Kayben Farms, in cooperation with the Town of Okotoks, will once again host the event. Several businesses will make up scarecrows and they will be judged. The Halloween weekend will be full of activities for the family out at Kayben including pumpkin carving. Some people have a knack for pumpkin carving. I am not one of them.

Let's hope the good weather holds so we can look forward to checking out the carving and scarecrows.
