Happy New Year! The library is gearing up for a very active winter season.
The Crib Club is meeting again from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday. Peggy Gillis is offering Drop In Knitting sessions again, if there is enough interest shown. On Jan. 19 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a videoconference, Money Talks: Retirement Planning. Please let our librarian, Joan, know if you are planning to come. Please see the announcements of these on the library’s bulletin board, just inside the door of the Post Office and the Village Office.
Our hours of operation are Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We have an excellent collection of Westerns, DVD’s and games and puzzles for the children. If you want a DVD that we do not have, we can order it in from other libraries. The library’s mandate is to provide a life-long learning centre for the community of Longview. To ensure this, we encourage the use of our inter-library loan system, which provides access to a vast amount of knowledge.
When you have a library card and an account number, you can order books on your computer in the comfort of your own home, then pick them up at the library when they arrive. If we do not have the book you want, Joan can order it in from our inter-library loan system for you. If you think the library should have a book that it doesn’t, draw it to Joan’s attention, and she will see what she can do.
An interesting read is The Deliberate Corruption of Climate Science by Tim Ball, Phd. In the book, he explores the many ways in which politics and economics are manipulated to create fear and deception in the minds of the public. He claims that global warming does not take into consideration historical data, oceanography, and soil studies. He claims that CO2 is not the culprit it is thought to be, because it is so necessary for plant growth and agriculture. He postulates that public understanding has been seen through a prism, and CO2 a minor concern, not the disastrous one that we are led to believe. Even though you don’t agree with him, the book is worth a read.
