With funding support from Okotoks FCSS, the Okotoks Public Library will be installing five Little Free Libraries in residential pocket parks this spring, and three Little Free Libraries for indoor facilities within the Town.

These libraries will be stocked with gently used discards, donated items and extra copies of books from the library’s collection.

It is hoped that Okotoks residents will embrace this ‘take a book, leave a book’ concept and join the world-wide movement that now boosts over 36,000 Little Free Libraries around the globe.

Library Director Tessa Nettleton is working with the Town of Okotoks’ Open Spaces department to secure a site plan for where each outside library will be situated.

She expects that they will be installed sometime in May, but what she needs first is to get the little libraries built.

“We are looking for local families or individuals who would be interested in constructing a library for us,” said Nettleton. “We will pay for all materials, and provide a small honourarium towards labour.”

Nettleton has design plans for basic structures, but says she would like to see people come up with their own unique constructions too.

It is important, however, that all the libraries are weather-proof.

The Literacy for Life Foundation is running a Computer Café every Friday (except Good Friday) at the Okotoks Public Library until May 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This casual drop-in program allows participants to bring their own laptops or tablets and have their computer questions answered.

A facilitator is on hand to offer assistance on topics such as Windows 8, Social Media, Internet Security/browsing, Skype and managing photos and files.

For more information call 403-652-5090.

The library is also looking for people willing to share their adventures, favourite destinations, best tips, and trips with other travel lovers.
