Be sure to mark Saturday, Sept. 26 on the calendar as a day to stop into the library to learn about and support some of the local writing talent living right here in our community.

The Okotoks Public Library is hosting a local authors Expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day as part of the Alberta Culture Days celebration.

Authors will have copies of their books for sale and will be giving readings from their works at designated times, plus refreshments, prizes and fun for the whole family will also be part of this exciting event.

Authors scheduled to attend include Elena Aitken, Lorraine Castro, Anne Gafiuk, Janet Gurtler, Hugh Gillard, Mike Harrison, Faye Holt, Shirlee Matheson, Fran Porter and Carrol Wells.

Suggestions of other writers to invite or questions on how to get involved can be forwarded to [email protected].

Lorraine Castro will also host a free workshop entitled Using Short Stories to Write Family History/Memoir on this day.

In the two-hour class, Lorraine will demonstrate how she used short stories in the writing of her family history/memoir.

The participants will then have the opportunity to practice the process by beginning to organize and write part of a short story, either about an ancestor or about themselves.

There is limited space available and registrations are currently being accepted by calling the library at 403-938-2220.

Lorraine asks that those attending to bring their own choice of writing materials.
