Library set for Light Up festivities

Okotoks Public Library patrons now have even greater access to collection materials without ever having to step foot in the actual building.

Okotoks Public Library patrons now have even greater access to collection materials without ever having to step foot in the actual building. In addition to Overdrive and Freading eBooks and Freegal Downloadable Music, there is the TumbleBook Library for children and now Zinio.

Zinio gives patrons access to popular magazines, including such titles as Rolling Stone, Canadian Living, O Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Discover, Runner’s World, Seventeen, Gluten-Free Living, House & Home, Canadian Geographic, Beadwork, Walrus and many more. They can be read online or on a tablet or smartphone. These are the actual full editions of each magazine in full colour. Titles are always available and never need to be returned. Patrons just need to create an account using their email address to log into the collection.

Zinio, TumbleBook, Freegal, Freading, and Overdrive can all easily be accessed through the library’s website (www.okotokslibrary.ca) by clicking on the Quick Links button on the homepage where access to the entire collection of e-resources can be found. Please note that most materials will require the input of one’s library account barcode for use.

The library also now has 12 UWALK Pedometer Kits available to borrow. Developed by the University of Alberta's Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation and funded by the Government of Alberta, UWALK aims to help Albertans find their stride. UWALK allows patrons to track their activity, online or by downloading a personal activity log. These pedometer kits are available with a three week loan period.

Be sure to stop into the library during this weekend’s Light Up Okotoks festivities. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be served by the Friends of the Library on Friday, Nov. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. North of Broadway’s Tweener Show Choir will also be performing at the library from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. that night, and a Christmas Craft Sale and the Okotoks Artists and Friends “Small Stuff” Art Show & Sale will run at the library on Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tables for the craft sale are still available and can be booked for $25 each by stopping into the library.
