LETTER: Use Okotoks' deer to feed those in need

Although this suggestion may not be palatable to some, it could be very palatable to those in need.

Dear Editor,

An article and a letter to the editor in the Nov. 15 edition of the Western Wheel stood out for me.

I agree with the fact that many people are having difficulty putting food on their tables and thus must rely on the food bank to feed their families. I also am of the opinion that Okotoks has an overpopulation of deer which has created a dilemma for the town.

Throughout our history we have been provided with a food source of wild game. I understand that on many occasions in past practices, this provision has been abused. With our situation of excess deer population, would it be possible to reduce these numbers and provide a protein source (venison) to many families in need?

The logistics of field to frying pan would have to be worked out, but perhaps some meat processing volunteers could assist in this regard.

Although this suggestion may not be palatable to some, it could be very palatable to those in need.
