LETTER: Tread carefully when it comes to gambling

These are human beings with aspirations and hopes like anyone else, but who innocently fall into the grips of one of the worst addictions in our society.

Dear Editor,

Re: Putting him on the right track, Feb. 21

There is no such thing as a “degenerate gambler.” There are, however, gamblers who have fallen into the seductive abyss of this addiction.

These are human beings with aspirations and hopes like anyone else, but who innocently fall into the grips of one of the worst addictions in our society.  Sometimes all it takes is the rush of a win.

Gambling addiction is not to be thought of as degenerative. It can make changes in the reward system of the brain and ultimately snag some by surprise. Tread carefully.
