LETTER: Too many intersections planned for north Okotoks

No, we don’t want a freeway, but it would be helpful to have arterial roads that are not constant stop-and-go traffic.

One of Okotoks' new residential developments, Ridgemont, will take shape on a quarter section of land at the corner of 32 Street and 338 Avenue, pictured on Sept. 14.

Dear Editor,

We have attended multiple information sessions regarding the developments slated to occur on the north side of Okotoks.

Our feedback, echoed by many others, is that too many additional intersections are planned along 338 Avenue and 32 Street. Yet, at each information session, the plans never change.

Between Highway 2A and 32 Street, it is proposed to add four more intersections. We might as well change the name to Macleod Trail. The situation will repeat as you travel further east to 48 Street or south on 32 Street: additional intersections about every 300 metres.

For those who live on the north side of town, it’s already a toss-up whether to shop in south Okotoks or south Calgary. We prefer to shop locally, but these additional intersections will push more customers to south Calgary.

No, we don’t want a freeway, but it would be helpful to have arterial roads that are not constant stop-and-go traffic.

We recommend far fewer intersections. Failing that, some new intersections could be right-in/right-out only. But please, not a dozen more traffic lights.

If you agree, please contact the mayor and council of Okotoks. They control this issue.
