Dear Editor,

I am appalled to hear that, in such an inflation crisis, that the Town of Okotoks would even consider raising its franchise fee on natural gas.

As a senior on a fixed income, I have had no increase in my finances for the last 15 years. I do not have the luxury of casually spending more and more and then reaching my hand out to other people’s pockets and demanding money.

I would like each and every member of Okotoks council to look at what your wages were 15 years ago compared to now. I can almost guarantee you have had at least a 15 per cent increase.

I challenge the Town to become responsible and sensitive to the economic hardships its people are going through. I challenge our elected officials to live on reductions like we have to, and I challenge them to show me what measures they have taken to reduce costs and wastage in the last year.

If they want some ideas on how to save money, they can contact me. I can easily give them a number of ideas that would not impact the level of actual service to the population of Okotoks.
