Dear Editor,

Re: Housing wasn’t always a commodity, Aug. 16

In 1975, as a teenager, I purchased what would eventually become our household. Several of my friends followed the same path to establish their households. Placing needs before wants was the best decision we ever made.

With no assistance from family, we boldly stepped out of the nest and followed through, thick and thin. We followed the advice our parents had received from their parents and passed that advice onto our children.

Due to government policy and economic events resulting from that policy, we find the rules have changed over the years. We find ourselves over-encumbered by big government and their wish to live our lives for us.
