Letter: Mayor in the wrong at CMRB meeting

Dear Editor, I would like to address last week’s article regarding Suzanne Oel’s apology for her comments during a meeting with the Calgary Metropolitan Regional Board on Sept. 17, 2021. I disagree with her having to apologize at all.
Letters to the editor

Dear Editor,

I would like to address last week’s article regarding Suzanne Oel’s apology for her comments during a meeting with the Calgary Metropolitan Regional Board on Sept. 17, 2021.

I disagree with her having to apologize at all.

I think Mayor Nenshi is the one who needs to apologize for the rude and unprofessional comments that were made to Ms. Oel during, what was supposed to be, open debate of certain issues at this meeting.

When has it become acceptable to berate and demean a member during open discussion and debate?

Is there no professional decorum and respectful governance at these meetings?

Is it no longer acceptable to agree to disagree on a topic without mudslinging and directing inappropriate and immature comments towards the person with a differing viewpoint?

Mayor Nenshi’s behaviour was immature and unacceptable. He should apologize...not Suzanne.
