LETTER: Make north Okotoks intersections traffic circles

Traffic circles take a little bit of practice, but I don't think Okotoks drivers are less skilled than drivers in surrounding communities.
ROUND AND ROUND – Studies on traffic roundabouts have found that they produce fewer injuries and fatalties because drivers approach them at slower speeds.
A letter writer believes traffic circles are a better choice than signalized intersections in north Okotoks.

Dear Editor,

Re: Too many intersections planned for north Okotoks, Dec. 13

In reference to Mark and Louise Campbell's letter to the editor, I would propose somewhat of a solution. If the Town has to put in those required intersections, could it not design them as traffic circles?

They do take a little bit of practice, but I don't think Okotoks drivers are less skilled than drivers in our surrounding communities like High River and south Calgary where they have been in use for a few years.

You don't need power for lights and cars aren't sitting there idling waiting for the lights to change.

If they are designed into the streets at the construction stage, drivers would get used to them quite easily. I feel this is something that is overdue and it would be another way that Okotoks could become more environmentally friendly.
