It is our turn to lend support

They have been there for all of us and it is our turn to be there for them. Whether you run a major charitable organization, a local festival or a youth soccer team Dave and Joann Gilbert and their family have been there to support your cause.

Whether you run a major charitable organization, a local festival or a youth soccer team Dave and Joann Gilbert and their family have been there to support your cause.

Their family has donated goods, money and most importantly their time to countless causes in this community. Now, it’s our turn to be there for them in their time of need.

Dave, Joann and their two boys were injured in a terrible traffic accident on Friday morning near Chain Lakes.

The two boys were taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital with serious injuries and Joann was flown by STARS to the Foothills Hospital in critical condition.

Thankfully, the boys have since been released and although Joann is still in hospital her caregivers are optimistic she will make a full recovery.

However, that recovery will be long and gruelling as she sustained numerous injuries.

Rest easy Dave and Jo, we will be there for you as you have been there for us.

My family is indebted to Dave, Joann and their family after they gave us a shoulder to lean on in a time of tragedy.

When my wife’s father was killed in a car accident last year it was devastating.

Without a word, Dave showed up at our home the following day with boxes of food and everything from tissues to Aspirin.

Perhaps most important was the hug he gave my wife which provided assurance we were not alone. Their caring gesture showed we lived in a community where friends and neighbours are there to pick you up when you suffer a painful blow.

It was a gesture I assure you I will never forget.

I am sure my family’s story is just one of many instances where Dave, Joann and their family provided support where it was needed.

Now, Okotoks, they need us.

They may not need you to inundate them with offers to cut their grass, clean their house or provide child care, although those are appreciated I am sure.

What they need are your prayers, your well wishes and your caring thoughts.

Dave and Joann, you have always been there for us, now please take our hand — it is your turn to lean on us and rest assured we will be there for you.
