The Western Wheel is in the last week of their “Best of the Foothills” contest. You can enter online or find the entry in this issue and fill it out. You don’t have to answer every question but please answer all you can as it helps make the contest more fun for everyone. Surely you can pick your favourite local politician, or best teacher, or best business owner (helloooo). We all think we know where the best burger is or the best fries or the best pub etc.

So get it done this week and you will be entered to win $500 in local spending cash. If you win and don’t want the money I am available 24/7 to look after that for you.

Okay, so now you have the Best of contest behind you it is time to take a look at our Father’s Day contest. This one can be entered online only and gives you an opportunity for some great prizes. The contest will feature a special day at Dawgs Stadium on Sunday, June 16. The Man Van will be there to give the first 100 men who arrive the opportunity for a free prostrate check via a little needle prick in your arm. They say the best way to beat prostrate cancer is early detection so don’t be a wimp and show up early. Why is it men are babies when it comes to this and women don’t give it a second thought? Some say women can endure child birth and it is painful, but I know when I had shoulder tendonitis it was like having a baby every 10 minutes. See you at the van.

Today I do not want to be the Mayor of Toronto. Man those media types never say no do they. The mayor walks out his front door in the morning and they are waiting for him firing hundreds of questions. I walk out my door and on a lucky morning there may be a robin in eyes view. They say where there is smoke there is usually fire. If the proof is not there that says the guy is a drug addict then it is time to lay off don't you think?

How about the upper Senate? What a disgrace that is. People who we are supposed to hold in extreme regard are cheating the Canadian citizens. What a shame. The average senator is spending over $200,000 per year in expenses. They top out around $376,000 a year. That is before they get paid. I am probably miles low with this estimate but I'II bet it costs Canadians well over half a billion a year to keep the Senate afloat. Do we need it? Will it affect us if it goes away?

Take the City of Calgary and think about all the fulltime alderman, then add all the MLAs who represent Calgary and then add in the MPs out of Calgary. You would need two city buses to get them all in and that is only the elected officials. Add in all their staff and they may sink the S.S Moyie in the Glenmore Dam. Isn't it time for someone to stand up and say enough.

Next weekend we will be in June already. Lets hope the long sunny days of summer start to slow down a bit so we can enjoy a fun summer season. Saturday, June 1 is the annual Soap Box Derby and Rotary wants to be sure that all kids nine to 14 that want to participate are in. Entry forms for kids and sponsors are available at our office. See you on the hill next Saturday cheering the kids on.
