I' m choosing to ignore the inevitable for now

I admit I have a stubborn streak, and right now is one of those moments where it has taken control. As I watch the abundance of parents with children in tow going through the various aisles of school supplies, I refuse to follow the lead just yet.

I admit I have a stubborn streak, and right now is one of those moments where it has taken control.

As I watch the abundance of parents with children in tow going through the various aisles of school supplies, I refuse to follow the lead just yet.

I am not accepting the fact that the start of school is just around the corner. Instead, I continue to turn a blind eye to the rows of school supplies in stores – walking past them as if they don’t exist.

My stubborn nature is holding on tight to the four more weeks of summer holidays that remains. I simply refuse to give in.

While some parents are printing off the school supply lists from school websites, I remain in denial as I soak up the 30 degree temperatures and continue to meet summer head-on.

Don’t get me wrong – I have been those parents in past years browsing aisle after aisle looking for those listed items so punctually provided by my son’s school.

This year is different.

Maybe it’s the late arrival of the warm weather or maybe it’s the fact that I haven’t finished all of my holidaying for the season, but I just can’t seem to give those school supplies more than just a fleeting glance.

I am well aware that my behavior could put me at risk of the school supply stock running out before I get to those aisles myself in a few weeks, but that’s just my stubborn Irish nature taking over.

In the eyes of our backpack toting youth, summer is a little more than half over.

Why rush it when there is sun to soak up, water to swim in and vacations to be had?

For those of you in the same boat and not yet ready to accept that back to school time approaching, let’s just sit back with cool drinks in hand and the sun beating on our tanned skin for a few more weeks while we have the chance.

Soon enough we’ll be bundled in layers of clothing and those days of basking will seem like a distant memory.
