Bring the family out this Saturday to see some great events and music.

The Highland Games will once again take place on the grounds of the Foothills Composite High School. Scottish dancers, Irish dancers, bag pipes and so much more. Haggis burgers for those who dare and regular burgers for the rest!

Heavy games competitions where men in kilts will toss telephone poles around, along with numerous other things. Several age classes of dancers etc.

The action starts early morning and runs until about 4:30 p.m. Then a mass band exhibition. The grounds will reopen at 6 p.m. for the ceilidh with live music from “Fraid Knot.”

Ceilidh tickets are available at the Western Wheel office or at Urban Optique.

Hurry, the tent only holds a couple hundred people. It promises to be a great day.

Did you know that we have more MLAs representing Calgary than we have alderman representing Calgary?

If you use 1,190,000 as the Calgary population here is the breakdown per capita.

• 14 alderman works out to 1 for every 85,000

• 25 MLAs works out to 1 for every 47,600

• Eight MPs works out to 1 for every 149,000

Anything look out of whack to you? Maybe we should be looking for a premier who is willing to take a hard look at representation and reduce the number of MLAs!

We could save tens of millions with little or no pain.

I hated to do it but I bought a Progressive Conservative membership the other day. I cannot stand the thought of not voting for our next premier.

The part I hate is that they will have my phone, email and address to bug me for money for the next election.

It is a great way to make money for the party but I think all Albertans should be allowed to vote without purchasing a voting card.

We must now be careful to vote for a leader that wants to serve Albertans and not a leader that wants only the title as premier!

Attn: Downtown businesses! Roger Brooks is coming to Okotoks on Aug. 28 and 29 to give us some ideas on how we can improve downtown business and ideas for a theme to carry forward throughout the town. He will do an assessment of Okotoks through the eyes of a visitor. I have seen him do this before and it is worth a look.

You must RSVP so call the town or go to: www.okotoksventure.ca to register.
