Goodbye summer, hello fall

Here we are embracing fall, in beautiful Alberta. It is only here we can go from +30 C degrees on Saturday to frost on Wednesday. What a busy times it has been, as September always proves to be.

Here we are embracing fall, in beautiful Alberta. It is only here we can go from +30 C degrees on Saturday to frost on Wednesday. What a busy times it has been, as September always proves to be. Kids are back to school, sports clubs are back up in action, all while we try to get out for that one last summer adventure. I spent a fantastic weekend camping at Park Lake soaking up the last of summer’s sun with my family.

Don’t forget to take time to stop and notice the leaves turn.

The last weekend in August, I was given the opportunity to be a judge at the annual Okotoks Chili Fest. It was great. There were 14 booths with chili to try, great entertainment and the Market Square. I might have paid the consequences afterwards, but it was worth it, all 14 booths!

This years Chili Fest was hosted by the Dr. Morris Gibson (DMG) Elementary School, with proceeds going towards school playground improvements. I had the chance to connect with DMG principal Kevin Newman about the event.

They were able to raise approx. $7,000 towards playground improvements that will benefit both the students of this school and also the community. He was pleased in the number of volunteers and the ability for DMG to give back to the community. Best of luck to them, that playground is well used by our community and could use some improvements!

Wow, can it be? 35th Terry Fox Run is this year! The run/walk will commence at the Crystal Shores Beach House at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. It should be a great event, Fountain Tire will be providing hot dogs and water to all participants. You can contact Sherry Heron at 403-650-3597 for more information.

The most important thing I would like to bring to your attention this week is the current Amber Alert for a little girl abducted from her home in Blairmore, BC. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Hailey Dunbar – Blanchette and her family. This little girl needs to be found quickly. I couldn’t imagine, not knowing where one of my children were. Check www.amberalert.com for information on how to identify her and her kidnapper and any current updates.
