Election next week

This time next week we will know who is the Alberta party in charge. One thing I learned last provincial election is not to believe the polls as we were led to believe that the Wildrose would form the government.

This time next week we will know who is the Alberta party in charge. One thing I learned last provincial election is not to believe the polls as we were led to believe that the Wildrose would form the government. Even though they did form the official opposition they were miles behind the PC’s in seats.

Our Highwood riding is fortunate to have six parties represented, the only candidate missing is a Liberal.

If you are reading this in time there is a candidates forum being held Wednesday, April 29 at the Community Centre from 7-9 p.m. The forum is sponsored by the Okotoks Chamber and the Wheel. All the candidates will be there. Will Prentice get his mandate? Only time will tell.

Since the election is being held on a Tuesday we will not be able to cover the results in print but please look at the Wheel website, Facebook page or Twitter to find the results. This could be a very different looking Alberta election with all the concern over dropping oil prices.

Great news on the advance poll for the provincial election. You can cast your ballot in the Highwood riding this week: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday or Saturday at the new Best Western all day long. There is no excuse not to exercise your right and vote!

Also on Wednesday April 29th is an information session in the Okotoks council chambers regarding some upgrades to Centre Avenue.

You can look at some preliminary design work from 6-8 p.m. I have not seen it yet but I believe the town is trying to make the street more pedestrian and bicycle friendly.
