EDITORIAL: Western Wheel Cares needs your help again this year

Seven very worthwhile organizations in the Foothills will benefit from annual holiday campaign.

The 2023 Western Wheel Cares campaign is now underway, so we’re once again calling on all those in the Foothills to get behind the initiative and support seven very worthwhile organizations that do so much good in our community.

Now in its 12th year, the annual holiday campaign has been blessed with fantastic support from donors – more than half a million dollars have been raised for local charities over the past decade – and we’re hoping that outpouring continues this year.

There are many reasons to give but one of the most compelling is that with a single donation you’re able to provide financial assistance to seven organizations: Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society, Foothills Country Hospice, Inclusion Foothills, Okotoks Food Bank, Pound Rescue, Rowan House Society and Sheep River Health Trust. Rather than having to choose between so many worthy local causes at this time of year, your donation to Western Wheel Cares ensures all of them receive your support.

Another reason to take part is that every nickel that’s donated goes directly to the seven local organizations as there’s absolutely no overhead costs associated with the campaign. Gayle Wolf, the office manager at the Western Wheel, does double duty at this time of year as coordinator of the Western Wheel Cares campaign, spending countless hours overseeing the holiday initiative to ensure every dollar donated is stretched to its fullest.

Western Wheel Cares raised a record $82,670 in 2022, bringing the 11-year total to $569,059, and we’re hoping Foothills residents and businesses outdo themselves to set a new mark in 2023. The needs in our communities have only intensified over the last few years, so it’s more important than ever to extend a helping hand to neighbours if you’re in a financial position to do so.

Please support Western Wheel Cares this holiday season as your donations will allow the seven benefitting charities to continue to do so much good in the Foothills. Thank you.
