Highwood voters will get to see the candidates vying for their votes in the May 5 provincial election face off against one another.

The Okotoks and District Chamber of Commerce will host a forum on April 29 at the Foothills Centennial Centre at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.

It will be Okotoks’ opportunity to hear from the six candidates running in the Highwood – Carrie Fischer for the Progressive Conservative Party, Wayne Anderson for the Wildrose Party, Joel Windsor for the Alberta Party, Leslie Mahoney for the NDP, Jeremy Fraser for the Social Credit Party and Martin Blake for the Green Party.

I hope all six will make it.

We won’t be able to include coverage of the forum in the April 29 issue of the Western Wheel due to our Tuesday press deadline. It’s unfortunate because that will be the last issue before election day.

We will still cover the forum and have it up on our website, www.westernwheel.com. in our election section.

We will also have bios and background on all the candidates in next week’s issue.

Congratulations to the winners in last week’s Leadership Awards.

Okotoks students Tegan Donnelly, Amlika Nair, Alyssa Gutowski and Ellie Kitchen were all honoured with Leaders of Tomorrow awards, and Andrew and Shari Gustafson won the Heart of Okotoks award.

It makes me feel good about our community to know there are people like this willing to lend a hand and help make Okotoks a great place to live.
