Celebrating 25 years at the Wheel

The other day my phone rang and on the other end was Lindie Klippenstein calling to remind me that I was just about to celebrate 25 years as the publisher of the Wheel. Bruce and Lindie sold the Wheel to me in 1989.

Can you believe that some of you have been reading my column for that long! That’s 1,300 columns and hundreds of corny jokes.

Well I would like to thank Bruce and Lindie for allowing me this opportunity and also, thanks to all the staff over the past 25 years for putting up with me and most of all a huge Thank you to our fantastic advertisers and readers. Without you nothing happens. Readership makes the Wheel go round!

Almost crazier than all you putting up with me for the past 25 years is the fact that also this month I am celebrating 50 years of working! When will it end? The almighty dollar makes us do strange things eh! But 50 years! The other day a smart looking gentleman walked into the office, looked at me and said “good morning sir”.

He looked to be about 60 and he called me sir! Then a couple days later a fellow walked in looked at me and said you must be Mr. Rockley. He was probably closer to 70! Ok, that’s it, I am going to start thinking about packing it in. I still think of myself as Paul and much prefer that to Mr. or Sir or grandpa or poppy or whatever....

Don’t start cheering yet it will take me a year or two to clean out my office.

Geez, it’s also my birthday in June!

Don’t forget this Saturday at 10am sharp will be the start of the annual Rotary Soap Box Derby. Come on over to the hill beside Fountain Tire and enjoy the excitement. Drivers need to arrive by 9am.
