Candidates have done their job, now its our turn

It is the homestretch for the municipal election and residents in foothills communities have some difficult decisions to make on Monday.

There are some outstanding candidates who have stepped forward in all the municipalities in our area, which is an excellent sign residents are truly interested in what is happening in their communities.

For the most part, the candidates have worked hard to secure our support. Knocking on doors, circulating resource information and platform literature and making the media tours to ensure their vision is easily accessible.

Now the onus is on us, the voters, to make the best decision for our families, our businesses and our communities.

It is our job to wade through the information provided by the candidates and decide whether or not they deserve a check mark on your ballot.

After attending some of the forums and speaking with the candidates there has been some clarity.

It is clear some candidates are prepared for the job on council and some are not. It is clear some are taking the task ahead of them seriously and other are not. It is abundantly clear some candidates are running to truly help their constituents while others are not.

That is their prerogative, so it is our task to do some research, ask some questions, ignore the political rhetoric and make an informed decision on Oct. 21.

This is a critical term for foothills councils and school boards who are dealing with water issues, growth pressures, regional partnerships and flood recovery.

Kudos to everyone who puts their name forward, but being a councillor or trustee is no easy job and should be done for the right reasons. So, to the voters, ensure the candidates you are choosing bring vision and are committed to the task.
