What a weekend! If you enjoy following sports and cheer for the same teams as me you are one happy camper today.

The Okotoks Dawgs won two extra inning games against the Medicine Hat Mavericks over the weekend at Seaman Stadium. The Mavericks are ahead of the Dawgs in the standings.

On Sunday it looked bleak as they were down 5-2 at one point but came all the way back to take the W in the bottom of the 14th inning.

Then of course good old “Lefty” Phil Mickelson won the Scottish Open in an extra hole. Chipped to within five inches for the win.

But, I saved the best for last, Jason Glass finally got it done at the Calgary Stampede and won the $100,000 Dash for Cash. Seven times he has been to the final but never won. Twice he did cross the finish line first but lost it with a penalty. That includes the heartbreak of last year his dad, Tom Glass says he will get over someday.

Congratulations to Jason and his team as they just had a great Stampede with more than $40,000 in day money, the aggregate win (a new truck and $10,000), and the $100,000 final.

High River flood victims also benefitted from his success as Jason donated a portion of his day money to flood relief.

The Stampede raised $2.1 million for flood relief with their “Come Hell or High Water” t-shirts. Wow. The High River Rotary Club also have a great t-shirt for sale that says “Come Hell or High River”. On the back there is a splash of mud and it says “Mud, Sweat and Tears.” They had boxes of them at the Dawgs game on Sunday and pretty much sold all they had there. All of proceeds of these shirts goes to High River flood relief.

Other t-shirts are available in Okotoks at Backbones Chiropractic & Sports Therapy as well.

Late Monday night Okotoks town council, in a recorded vote, decided to appeal the Wind Walk decision to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The MD of Foothills approved a decision to allow the rural subdivision to be built just south of the town limits provided they find adequate water. Okotoks council took that decision to the Court of Queens Bench. They lost the decision and then took it to the Court of Appeal. That decision as well went in favour of the MD.

They have now decided, with advice from their legal council, to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. The Supreme Court will decide whether or not it will hear the appeal.

The final decision will help set the course for future development and annexation.
