Are you ready for Christmas?

Well there is little doubt Christmas is almost here. For the first time I am ready for the big day. Not sure why but I do recall the stress of last minute shopping last year and I guess I didn’t want to go through that again.

The weather promises to be great so those of us who need to travel will be in good shape.

Winter begins on Dec. 22 and that is also the shortest day of sunlight for the year. Don’t get too excited though as the two coldest months of the year are just around the corner.

I watched a couple old Santa movies over the weekend and as corny as they may be the message is wonderful. Christmas should not be about material things. It is a time to be thankful for what we have and mostly to be thankful for family and friends. It is easy for us to appreciate those close to us, but the trouble is we often keep those thoughts in our own hearts and forget to share the feelings with the ones who mean the most. I know that’s me so instead of that ring, I plan on staying home and helping with the housework!

I hear Monday was a tough day for Telus as some dude in Okotoks doing core drilling work severed the fibre-optic cable and took out phone service to 5,400 customers in Blackie, Cayley, High River, Nanton and Stavely. Telus did get the service back up before the end of the day.

Exercise for people over 50.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a five-pound potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-pound potato bags.

Then try 50-pound potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-pound potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I’m at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.
