April showers bring May flowers?

I don’t think the author of that saying meant snow showers. Oh my, we got a dump of snow on Saturday, eh! I felt so bad for all the work put into our inaugural First Saturday event. It was not a nice day to be out at all.

I don’t think the author of that saying meant snow showers. Oh my, we got a dump of snow on Saturday, eh! I felt so bad for all the work put into our inaugural First Saturday event. It was not a nice day to be out at all. Some folks west of us couldn’t even get out of their driveways. Oh, we deserve the best summer ever. Good thing they made Southern Albertans tough.

Well the Okotoks Oilers’ season ended in a Game 7 defeat but let’s take the positives out of it. They had a tremendous season and a great final playoff series. They played their final game of the season in front of a record crowd of 1,922 fans. Congratulations.

It will not be long until we see a lot of water passing by in the Sheep. I have to assume there will be a large runoff as the mountains do look full of snow. Let’s hope the thaw is slow and we do not have to worry about flooding.

Last call for donations to Brendan’s cancer research fundraiser. He and Coun. Matt Rockley will be shaving their heads at 2:45 p.m. on April 11th at Good Shepherd School. To date they have raised over $1,600. If you want to help them reach the $2,000 plateau please make a donation this week at albertacancer.ca/brendansbuzz.

I want to congratulate the Okotoks Public Library for the fantastic job they do in and around our community. As most of you know, they were presented a Service Excellence Award in 2010 by our Provincial government. I just received some stats that make me realize just how impressive they are. Over the past two years, cardholders have increased 20 per cent and they now boast a membership of about 17,500 people. Items checked out increased eight per cent over the past year to 341,000. That is almost 1,000 items per day. And, 53 per cent of all book circulation stats come from the children’s sections. It is so important that our future generations keep reading.

Thank you Okotoks Library staff, volunteers and board for keeping us at the top edge in Alberta.
