May 26, 1932 – May 12, 2020

Wilfred William Erdman, formerly of Black Diamond, Alta, passed away May 12, 2020, at the long-term care unit in High River Hospital.

Wilf is survived by his wife of 63 years Yvonne; his three children Bryan (Mary Ellen), Cory (Corrie Lee), Michelle; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Wilf was predeceased by his parents Emil and Emma Erdman; 2 brothers Harold, Melvin; 3 sisters Elenor, Addy and Hazel.

Born in Granum May 26, 1932. Wilf’s family lived on a farm 7 miles west of Granum. In 1946 Harold and Melvin took over running the family farm, and
Wilf and his parents moved into Claresholm, where Wilf was able to finish his schooling. Wilf took on several jobs before taking a job with Calgary Power/ TransAlta in 1954. Spending 2 years on the high line crew, then he moved to Black Diamond in 1956 to continue with the company for the next 36 years until retiring in 1992.

Throughout the years, Wilf enjoyed farming for himself and custom farming for other people around the Black Diamond area. He had a love for animals, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also had a passion for old cars, trucks, and guns. His stories and quirky sayings put a smile on most people’s faces over the years.

A big thank you to all the nurses, doctors, and staff at the High River long-term care unit for taking great care of Wilf over the 2 ½ years there. Wilf spent the first 6 months in Black Diamond Hospital, where he also got really good care from the doctors, nurses and staff before his stay in High River.

At Wilf’s request, there will be no funeral service held. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered in one of his favourite places. If friends or family desire, a donation may be made to an animal shelter of their choice or any other charity. To email condolences, please visit
