On Thursday, the 29th of September, Suzanna Nagy-Gyorgy passed
away peacefully at the Foothills Country Hospice, surrounded by
her loving family. Suzanna had a beautiful long life of 89 years, with
three generations of family whom she adored. She thrived as a wife,
mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend to many.
Over the past two years, Suzanna fought a terminal diagnosis with
an admirable strength, determination, and fiery independence. Even
through her final weeks, she developed new friendships with all
those who were lucky enough to meet her. Her kindness and care
for others was evident and impactful, through to her final moments.
Suzanna, once a fierce young athlete, was a busy and active woman
throughout the entirety of her life. She played handball and volleyball
in her youth in Hungary. In Canada, she took on badminton, bowling
and ultimately found her passion for Tennis. After her many years on
the court were over, she continued watching tennis as an avid fan.
She was still cheering on her favourite players in the US Open during
her final days in hospice.
She built many lifelong friendships in her communities, through
sports, travel, and across the card-table. In her later years, she
became well known in her communities in, striking up conversation
with any passerby on the Cimarron pathways, building bonds with
her neighbours, and the wonderful staff at the Okotoks Library. As
a prolific reader, she is known to have read $20,000 worth of books
(had she purchased, instead of borrowed) in just her few late years
living in Okotoks.
Suzanna will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, deeply caring
nature, and an incredible sense of humour shared with those that
knew her best.
Suzanna is survived by her children; Agi (Jerry) and Lou (Charlene),
her grandchildren; Alaina (Logan) and Lindsay (Kyle), and her great
grandchildren Hanna, Ella and Zachary. Predeceased was her late
husband of 50 years, Louis Nagy-Gyorgy.
The family would like to extend thanks to all those who touched
Suzanna’s life, and for your kind wishes and condolences during
this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations
to Foothills Country Hospice, who’s positive impact and support has
been immeasurable.
Per Suzanna’s request there will be no public service.
Arrangements are in care of Snodgrass Funeral Homes, Okotoks
