August 29, 1926 – October 31, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce
the passing of Stewart Read on October 31, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

Stewart was born in Rockhaven, Saskatchewan and was raised on a farm with his older brother Don, sister Margaret, and younger brother Jack. His family moved to Salmon Arm, BC whenhe was a teenager.
He left school in Grade 9 and travelled to Saskatchewan by freight train to find work, eventually landing a job at a farm for $75 a month. Throughout his life, Stewart had various construction jobs including cat operator for the original Trans Mountain Pipeline project, washing gravel for major bridges along the Trans Canada Highway and the snow sheds in Rogers Pass, and working on the Revelstoke and Mica Dams.

Stewart met his wife Victoria at a house party in Revelstoke, BC. He always said that was the best thing that ever happened to him. They were married in
1960 and had two children, Rodney and Linda. In 1966 they moved from their mobile home to a house on 8th Street in Revelstoke. Due to health challenges, they left their beloved home in 2018 and relocated to a supportive living site in Okotoks, Alberta - a difficult transition but one that afforded precious time with their children, grandsons, and great-granddaughter.

Stewart was ever charming - a true gentleman with a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was well-loved for his ready smile, kind words, sense of humour and generosity. He helped older folks in his neighbourhood when he was young, and gratefully accepted help from  his young neighbours later in life.

Stewart is survived by his wife Victoria, son Rod (Angel), daughter Linda (Geoff), grandsons Joshua (Kaylee), Kieran (Jena), Riley, Blake (Jacinda), great granddaughter Emma, and many relatives and friends.

A Memorial service will be held at Okotoks Alliance Church 322183 15 Street E, NW Corner of 338 Avenue &, AB-2A, Okotoks, AB on Saturday November 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Revelstoke, BC at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
