BARNES PIC

July 26, 1946 – April 12, 2021

Sharon Barnes (nee Bukmeier) passed away Monday, April 12, 2021.

She was born in Edmonton July 26, 1946. She was predeceased by her husband Don, her parents as well as her two brothers, Wayne and Gary.

Sharon was the oldest of nine children and took her responsibilities as an older sister very seriously. She was known to be bossy. She met the love of her life when she was 13 years old. She knew when she met him, she was going to marry him. Don and Sharon got married in 1966 and then the adventure began.

Sharon was a hairdresser and Don had many jobs before ending up with Enerflex. When Sharon became pregnant with her first child, she decided to stay home with her children. Sharon and Don moved to Okotoks in 1974. Along the way, they built strong community ties, friendships that became like family and a left a legacy for giving back. Sharon joined groups in the community where she made life long friendships.

She and Don had a shared love for music. They were members of the Shepard Creek band where they played various gigs at the Old Folks Home, the Elks, and of course in the living room every Thursday night for band practice. Singing was a way of being for her. She always had a song in her head.

Sharon had an open-door policy. She loved having people over. Coffee would be put on and many visits were had at the kitchen table. Sharon loved to golf, and was very competitive. Nothing made her happier than when she beat her husband, children or anyone else she golfed with.

Sharon and Don loved traveling and camping. They made many trips with friends and family all over Canada and the US.

Sharon was the cornerstone of the Barnes’ family. While she was not outgoing like her husband, she had a quick wit and was known to throw some fantastic zingers in. Her laugh would fill the room and she knew she was funny. Her dedication to her children (and chosen children) as well as her grandkids was unrivaled. There was nothing she would not do for them. Her grandchildren loved their time with her. She had special relationships with each one of them. She has woven the love of family, laughter, support, giving back and music into each one of her family members.

We know that Sharon and Don are back together continuing their love story.

Sharon is survived by Scott Barnes, Heather (Tyler), Noah and Cooper Crook, Wade (Dawn), Kenton and Ashley Barnes as well as her siblings and her many friends.

Sharon loved cooking and feeding people so in lieu of flowers, we would ask that you donate to the Okotoks Foodbank.
