Surrounded by those who loved him,
Richard (Rick) Douglas Smith, of Black
Diamond AB passed away peacefully and on
his own terms, Wednesday, March 29th, at
the age of 66.

Rick was survived by his two children; Curtis
(Kristy) of Cayley, Brett (Jordan) of Red Deer,
Four grandchildren; Frankee, Kale, Shaw and
Sullivan, brothers Ron of Nanton and Rob
(Cindy) of Black Diamond, Darrin McKelvie
(Lisa) his best friends and brother as well as
many other lifelong friends in the Diamond
Valley Community. Rick was predeceased by
his loving Mother, Yvonne.

Rick was born in Calgary and raised in
Bowness, graduating high school at Bowness
Composite. He moved to the Diamond Valley
area in the 80’s and would always call
that home.

Rick was a Jack of All Trades, working in a
group home helping troubled teens, doing iron
work and carpentry as well as driving truck.
When he wasn’t working Rick loved to play
and coach hockey. Go Canucks Go! He loved
music; playing both guitar and drums. He
found joy in tinkering in his garage, a game
of pool, good food and drinks with family and
friends as well as watching football.

Rick had a wonderful way of making you
feel at ease in his presence. His accepting
nature and mischievous humor will be deeply
missed.

Rick’s family would like to extend their
gratitude to the wonderful staff of the Black
Diamond Hospital for their exceptional care
and kindness.

At Rick’s request, there will not be a service.
As Rick would say “Ciao”
