The family of Marilyn Getten sorrowfully
announces her passing on February 1, 2022.
With family at her side, Marilyn passed away
peacefully after suffering complications with
pneumonia at the Calgary SHC hospital. She
went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ at the age of 95 years.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents
Robert and Elizabeth Heron, husband Dr.
Ernest Bustin and husband Vern Getten
and 12 siblings. She is survived by her
three sons, David Bustin (Edith) of Okotoks,
Alberta, Marc Bustin (Carol) of Tsawwassen,
British Columbia and Eric Getten (Jo-Anne)
of Calgary, Alberta, eight grandchildren,
seventeen great grandchildren, numerous
nieces and nephews and many friends.

Marilyn was born March 24,1926 in Coronach,
Saskatchewan and was raised on a southern
Saskatchewan prairie farm 2.5 miles west of
Coronach which her father homesteaded in
1905. After leaving High School, she practiced
nursing in the area and eventually married
Dr. Ernest Bustin. After Dr. Bustin’s passing,
Marilyn moved with her sons David and Marc
to southern Alberta where she married Vern
Getten, and had their son Eric.

She lived a wonderful life on the farm, enjoying
her beautiful mountain view, supporting all
farm activities and providing many meals to
the field. She loved working in her garden and
riding her John Deere tractor until sunset. She
played a mean game of crib, loved curling,
was an incessant reader and gifted many with
her hospitality and generosity.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff
at Seasons Retirement Center in High River
and the South Health Campus hospital. In her
memory, the family will be planting a tree on
the banks of the Highwood River. If you desire,
donations can be made in our mother’s
memory to Rowan House Society (a women
and children’s shelter), High River, Alberta.

Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life will occur later this
summer.
