October 10, 1924 – Boian, Alberta
May 18, 2020 – Okotoks, Alberta

It is with sadness we share Margaret Dolores Langston (Purple Nanny), 95, of Calgary, AB, left us on Monday, May 18, 2020.

Margaret was born in Boian, AB, to Romanian settlers Gregori and Alexandra Toma. She left the homestead at sixteen and moved to Edmonton for work as a seamstress. As a young woman, she met her husband of sixty-one years, Leslie Langston, at a post-war dance in Calgary. Together, they raised two children in their Acadia home, a hub for family gatherings for over sixty years.

Margaret was known for always wearing purple and a bit of sparkle… and always being in motion. An avid golfer, she shot a coveted hole in one at Maple Ridge golf course at age seventy-five. She loved dancing and the line dancing community, often performing in Calgary Stampede celebrations.
She enjoyed travel and notably, in her 80s, visited Italy, zip-lined in Costa Rica, and cruised to Alaska and the Antarctic. She was also a ten-pin bowler, bird lover, gardener, baker, cook, host of backyard picnics and afternoon teas, knitter and most importantly, a dear friend and family member to many.

Margaret will be deeply missed by sister Pearl (George) Demchuck; son Greg (Cathi) Langston; daughter Gail (Mervyn) Page; grandchildren,
Kim (Jaydel) Page Gluckie, Jamie (Todd) Myles, Quinn (Deni) Page, Gregory (Nancey) Langston, Kristi (Matt) Fauth; great-grandchildren Eva, Sophia and Laila Gluckie, and India and Amelia Myles, Roman and Slone Smith, Hannah and Gracie Langston; and many loving nieces, nephews, Godchildren and friends. Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Leslie; sisters, Elizabeth and Lena; brothers, George and Mike; her parents; and many others who are waiting with their dancing shoes on.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 21, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private funeral will be held with family and a celebration of life will follow at a later date.
