It is with deep sorrow the family of Kathy Black announce her passing on Feb 27 at the age of 61 at South Health Campus after a courageous fight against a sudden illness.

Kathy was born in Calgary where she lived and attended school until 1965 when the Black family moved to the farm north of Longview.

She worked for Trans-Alta for over 39 years. After her retirement she enjoyed having a more balanced lifestyle where she would spend time with and help her brother Ed run the farm business and participated in the rural life. Kathy was the master of branding meals at the farm. However, nothing gave her more pleasure than being an Aunt to Tia 23 and Paul 20. When they were little Kathy always enjoyed holiday times with them, planning great Easter egg hunts and spoiling them for birthdays and Christmas. They loved their Aunt Kathy and she adored them!

Kathy is survived by her brother Ed Black, niece Tia Black of Nova Scotia, nephew Paul Black of Calgary and her loving dog Chrissy. She was predeceased by her father Bill Black in 1991 and mother Joyce in 2005.

Thank you to the hospital staff at the South Health Campus for their care and compassion. I also want to thank the staff from Trans-Alta, and a very special thanks to Jane Kubke and Bell Johnston for all their help during Kathy’s illness and after her passing.

Family and friends will celebrate Kathy’s life at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to Heaven Can Wait.
