The family of John Lachlan Morrison are saddened to announce his
passing at his home at the age of 67. John battled cancer since 2019.
John is survived by his sisters, Donna Pedersen and Gwen Curtis
(Gary Dunn), and brother Murray Morrison. He has five nieces Leah
Hassman (Jason Blackman and her children Jackson and Larrisa),
Breanne Allen, Kalyn Peloquin (Stephan and sons Kiefer and Gracen),
Nicole Curtis (Cody Millar), and Kezia Grams (Brett and children Gavyn
and Rhys), and one nephew Lanny Pedersen (Jody and children
Lachlan and Jaylen). He has several cousins on both the Morrison and
Stromsmoe sides.
Predeceased by his father, A. Donald Morrison in 1997 and his mother,
Marie Laura Morrison in 2018.
John was born and raised on a farm west of High River, Alberta where
he attended school in High River, Okotoks, and Claresholm. In 1974,
John completed a farrier course at Olds College.
John was very skilled with machinery. John spent many years in the
trucking and oil industries. He worked in the oil patch for several years,
originally as a roughneck, then water truck driver then trucking oil
products. His skills allowed him to know, just by listening, if his rig was
running smoothly. He was meticulous with his vehicles and loved to show
them off. In the early 2000s, he would travel long distances, often down
to the United States and back with his little dog ‘Reba’ who kept him
company and went everywhere with him.
John loved the cowboy life. He loved riding horses and country music.
He enjoyed dancing. He was a stylish man with a signature moustache,
always dressed well. He loved everything western.
John loved a good time and had a wonderful laugh. He had so many little
sayings, perhaps none more appropriate at this moment than ‘adios’, ‘bye
bye’ and ‘be gone!’
His Celebration of Life will take place in the Munroe Barn at
Sheppard Family Park in High River at 2:00pm on Thursday,
September 29, 2022 with a reception to follow. Dress code is
western/casual. The family invites anyone with a story to share on
open mic.
