March 30, 1987 – June 20, 2020

On June 20, 2020 Joel Ostroski of Okotoks, AB passed away peacefully at home at the age of 33.

Born in Calgary, AB, Joel was the second of two children to Luann and Rick Ostroski. After graduating from Holy Trinity Academy, Joel apprenticed for a career as a B-Pressure Welder. In 2010 he began his career with Propak Industries in Airdrie. After 6 years with Propak, the oil patch hit rough times and eventually he was laid off. Joel was always industrious and motivated to find work. He was able to contract with a variety of welding shops in Calgary. He had an excellent reputation as a competent welder because of his numerous tickets for various types of welds and he took pride on each ticket he earned, especially the one for stainless steel.

His two children, Keegan and Salem, were the joy and loves of his life. He excelled at being a dad and truly enjoyed every minute he spent with them. They were his everything and his world revolved around his children.

The neighborhood could always tell when Joel and Keegan were going on an adventure, the site of racing bikes, a backpack filled with treasures and the sound of joyous laughter. The two of them also spent many hours playing video games. Although both were competitive, they were good sports. He would not admit to it, but Keegan was usually the front runner. The laughter emanating from his room was infectious. Joel was a hands-on dad and taught Keegan many things, the most enjoyable for Joel was teaching skating and hockey. Together they also shared a love of animals, in particular, reptiles and fish.

The moment Joel was united with his daughter Salem immediately stole his heart. He was the proud dad of a princess! He constantly called her the prettiest girl he knew and delighted in showing her off to all friends and family. She has the same adventurous spirit and independence that he had.

Joel was a beautiful soul. He selflessly gave his time, talents and money to anyone in need. Rarely did a week go by that he didn’t touch someone’s life by his generosity. He will be remembered by his quick wit, laughter, cheerful and giving spirit, his ability to talk to anyone and his love of family. He touched many lives.

He is survived by his parents, Luann and Rick Ostroski, sister Melissa (Matt Varcoe), Aunts Joyce Ostroski, Michele Macleay (George), Julia Nagy, Uncle Clint Grayson, cousins David Nagy, Desirae Nagy, Reese Ostroski, Tracy Ostroski and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in the USA.

He will be laid to rest in the Black Diamond Cemetery beside his Grandpa (Albert) and Grandma(Thelma) Ostroski and Uncle Bert Ostroski. He is also predeceased by his Grandma (Darlene) Grayson. A funeral mass was held on June 26, 2020. He will be lovingly missed
by all and forgotten by none.

In memory of Joel, a Trust Fund has been set up for Keegan and Salem’s education. Contributions can be made at any Alberta Treasury Branch under: LUANN IN TRUST OSTROSKI
